WGNS has more information on the story we brought your way on Wednesday morning about a teen who threatened to take his own life, according to a Murfreesboro Police Report.  On the report that WGNS obtained, the teenager said that he was being bullied by several kids at school and that he was tired of it. He is enrolled at a Rutherford County operated high school in Murfreesboro. The threat was evidently made during the evening hours while the teen was home.

We have since learned from the Rutherford County School System that the student may have fabricated the story. James Evans, spokesperson for the county schools stated, “I spoke to the principal this morning. They are very aware of the student and the counselor has been working with him daily with some issues outside of school that have nothing to do with bullying. In fact, the school is not aware of any ongoing bullying issues with the student at school and they have no idea why he would have told that to police. Again the counselor has been working with him daily on issues he's having in his personal life that has nothing to do with other students at the school.”

WGNS is not releasing the name of the school to further protect the identity of the student.

What does the Rutherford County School System Say About Bullying?

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. See the School Website HERE
