MURFREESBORO - Parents at La Vergne Primary School received a notification from Rutherford County Schools that a student there had mumps. Since then, WGNS has learned from Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans the state Department of Health has NOT confirmed a student with mumps. The message that went out to nearly 12-hundred parents of students at both La Vergne Primary and Roy Waldron Elementary mentioned mumps but the state Department of Health asked the county to retract the notification. The initial report said a student at the primary school was diagnosed with mumps and was last at La Vergne Primary on Tuesday. Most children have received mumps vaccination and would be protected from the virus. Again, the state asked the county to retract their initial message since the case has NOT been confirmed.
