Two grieving daughters and their mother grasped each other's hands as they remembered Gregg Hawkins, as a loving father and husband who always wanted to spend time with them.

Hawkins, 53, of Murfreesboro was killed Friday while interrupting a crime at Mona Boat Ramp. He was a Nissan engineer and an usher at World Outreach Church.

Daughters Logan LaRese and Brandi Hawkins and their mother, Janet, asked anyone with information about Hawkins' death to contact Detective Kyle Norrod at 615-904-3043 or Detective Capt. David Hailey at 615-904-3113.

Sheriff Robert Arnold called Hawkins' death "a senseless, cold-blooded murder. Nobody deserves this."

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect or suspects. People with information may call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 615-893-STOP between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

LaRese and Hawkins and their mother, Janet, clutched a photograph of the sisters and their father as they spoke about Hawkins during a press conference Monday afternoon at their home.

"Our hearts will forever be broken," said LaRese, who added her father was taken away too early.

Brandi Hawkins said her father touched so many other people.

"He was, seriously, the most honest man I've ever known," Brandi Hawkins said.

Their mother, Janet Hawkins, said her husband was an avid outdoorsman who fished since he was 6 years old. He was a perfectionist, especially at work. He would want his family to continue being strong.

"Life is short," Janet Hawkins said. "Love your family. It's not about the little things."
