UPDATE: Murfreesboro Police Car Strikes Female Crossing Old Fort Parkway - Names Released

We have more news on the pedestrian who was struck by a Murfreesboro Police car on Wednesday night. The accident occurred on Old Fort Parkway in front of the Target store around 10 PM. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the case because a city police officer was involved in the incident.

26-Year old MPD Officer Darrlyn Sanders was driving the patrol car when he hit 54-year old Virginia Bissinger. We are told that Bissinger was crossing the street in an area that was not well lit at night. The pedestrian was also crossing a four lane divided highway (HWY 96) where no crosswalk is present.

The preliminary Highway Patrol report indicates that Bissinger stepped into the direct path of Officer Sanders Crown Vic. Paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes and Bessinger was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville with serious injuries.

Bissinger, who is from Nashville, is currently in stable condition.
