Lonning was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville where he spent several days in recovery after being shot.

42 Year old Smith was charged with attempted murder in 2015 by a Rutherford County Sheriff's detective. He will soon be in court.

Suspect Steve Leslie Smith of Cedar Bucket Road near Readyville apparently has a lengthy run in with the law with over 30 past charges.

In 2015 Rutherford County Sheriffs Spokesperson Lisa Marchesoni wrote, "Deputies responding to the scene were unsure of Smith's location. As a safety precaution, deputies evacuated neighbors. The Felony Arrest Search Tactical Team, the Special Operations Response Team, Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management Agency responded."

Later in the day in 2015, Patrol Lt. Rhett Rankin made contact with Smith and convinced him to surrender peacefully.
