UPDATE: One shot and killed in Murfreesboro Dec. 23rd - Name Released

At 5:12pm Friday (12/23/16) evening Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to 310 W. Castle Street, suite #B in reference to a shooting. The incident occurred at RC Automotive behind The Journey Home.


When officers arrived they discovered that an altercation had occurred and at least one shot was fired. Police then observed a black male on the ground near a garage door at the business. The man had been shot in the abdomen. Officer J. Fox rendered aid until paramedics arrived. Minutes later, 28 year old Charles King from McMinville, TN was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the incident and to date, an arrest has not been confirmed.

NOTICE: Phillip Maddox was incorrectly identified as being charged with this particular crime. As of Monday afternoon (12/26/2016) Murfreesboro Police Sergeant Kyle Evans reports that no arrests have been made in the West Castle Street shooting. In reality, Maddox was charged with attempted second degree murder in connection with a different case that occurred a few hours later on State Street.
