The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that a 28 year old McMinnville man driving a GMC truck rear-ended the bus. Troopers told WGNS that Marcus Tittsworth was not wearing a safety belt when he hit the school bus. However, the troopers report showed that seat belts would not have made a difference in the officers' opinion.

Evidently, Tittsworth hit the truck as the bus was stopped and picking up children. Bus driver Curtis Manus, age 53, told police he had the stop arm extended and the safety lights flashing while stopped.
