More and more counterfeit money is turning up in Rutherford County. Businesses like Sonic and McDonalds have both reported receiving fake $20 bills several times in recent weeks.

Now, a local man told officers that he attempted to sell a car stereo through an app called "OfferUp" and was scammed. The OfferUp website and app allows people to buy and sell items online. In this case, the victim met the culprit in the Sears parking lot in Murfreesboro at the Stones River Mall to sell the stereo to. After making the transaction, it was realized that the buyer gave the victim eight $20 bills that were all fake.
