Local author Dan Whittle has been invited to conduct a "book signing-sale" on Wednesday at the North Rutherford YMCA in Smyrna. Whittle says he's honored the YMCA team, led by general manager Cleo Griffin, asked that he hold a signing for his book entitled: "Canalou: People, Culture, Bootheel Town."

Whittle is a veteran newspaper columnist whose work appears regularly in the Murfreesboro Post and Cannon Courier newspapers and each Friday on the Truman Show here on NewsRadio WGNS. He says he'll be signing books for $20 on hand from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the North Rutherford YMCA located just off Sam Ridley Parkway.

After being published in 2014, by the Center for Regional History at Southeast Missouri State University, the book has done well in sales. Whittle says a donation was made to put his book in public high school libraries throughout Missouri, in northwest Tennessee and northeast Arkansas.
