Who Do The Courts Pick for Jury Duty in Rutherford County? Registered Voters or Daily Drivers?

There has been some confusion in recent years about how residents are picked for jury duty. Jurors are picked randomly in Tennessee and to be eligible, you simply have to hold a Tennessee driver’s license and be at least 18.

Rutherford County Judge David Bragg was recently on WGNS. He told us that things have changed over the years and most people in our community have never been picked for jury duty before.

In the past, jurors were picked from a pool of registered voters.

To serve as a juror, one must:

  • be a United States citizen and a resident of the county in which you are summoned;
  • be at least 18 years old;
  • have been a resident of Rutherford County for at least 12 months;
  • have not served as a juror in the previous twenty-four (24) months;
  • have not been convicted of perjury, subornation of perjury, a felony, or any infamous offense.
