A 53-year old woman was accused of fleeing the scene of an accident Saturday evening. Kim Lynette Brinkley allegedly struck a truck hauling a trailer on Northfield Blvd. The motorist was then said to have left the scene without stopping to check on the welfare of the persons in the vehicle. A witness followed the suspect all the way to Lascassas Pike where she was met by police. Officers say when the culprit pulled into an apartment complex, she jumped from her car and ran into an apartment. Minutes later she exited and told officers she left the accident scene because of an arrest warrant.

The official arrest report shows that Brinkley admitted to the accident and told officers she had smoked crack one to three days prior. The arresting officer wrote, “her reactions to light were slow, pulse rate up, muscle tone appeared rigid, restless, long tremors, excited, talkative, exaggerated reflexes, anxiety and no HGN, all common signs of cocaine usage.” The ‘HGN’ test is the  Horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) which refers to a lateral or horizontal jerking when the eye gazes to the side.

The subject will appear in court on May 2, 2013.
