A Lascassas Pike woman is now short $1,919 in her checking account because of a bad check she deposited. The 33-year old woman told police on Thursday that she received a check in the mail for $2,550 on January 10th. The check came from a woman who was supposedly in Beverly Hills, California. The money was mailed to her for the purchase of a dog.

The dog was advertised by the victim on CraigsLists.org for $650. The culprit who was purchasing the animal told the victim to take $650 out of the check to cover the cost of the dog and mail the rest back. She did. The bank later told the woman that the check was no good and that she was responsible for the money deposited.

Little to no information is available on the woman who mailed the victim the fake check. By the way, the dog was never shipped to the West Coast. The shipping company recommended by the scammer turned out to be just as fake as the check.
