(MURFREESBORO) Osteoarthritis of the knee or hip is extremely painful. Dr. Robert Otto with Southern Joint Replacement Institute will be at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce at 11:00 o'clock this coming Tuesday (5/7/2019) morning to present a free "Lunch and Learn Seminar" on ways for you to reduce pain, improve mobility and your lifestyle.

Dr. Otto explains, "Osteoarthritis of the knee or hip occurs most often in people 50 years of age and older, but may occur in younger people, too. It is a degenerative disease. If left untreated, it'll get worse with time. "

The "Lunch and Learn Seminar" is free, but they need to know how much lunch to prepare. Therefore registration is required. Phone 615-342-1919 and let them know that you will be at the Chamber of Commerce this coming Tuesday morning. It will start at 11:00AM and you will be out by noon.

Dr. Otto notes that osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. This disease is painful and it affects the fingers, thumbs, spine, hips, and knees.

He notes, "The disease is most likely to develop as people get older. However, it may also occur when inflammation and injury to a joint cause a breaking down of cartilage tissue. In turn, that breakdown causes pain, swelling, and deformity."

The specialist explains that help is available to reduce or elminate the pain for most persons.

Are you feeling these WARNING SIGNS?

  1. Joint stiffness that occurs as you are getting out of bed
  2. Joint stiffness after you sit for a long time

  5. Inability to move the knee or hip to perform routine activities such as putting on your socks, standing or sitting.

A spokesperson for the Southern Joint Replacement Institute explained that the main goal of treating osteoarthritis of the hip is to improve the person's mobility (ability to get around) and lifestyle. Part of this goal involves improving the function of the knee or hip and controlling pain.
