A man accused of killing his wife inside their Sunset Avenue home in March of 2019, has seen his case delayed multiple times due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.
Martin Benito Montemayor was charged with the first-degree murder of his wife Judith Montemayor.
Residents in the community knew the 53-year-old woman by her warm smile. The domestic violence victim worked to serve others as a manager at Donut Country on Memorial Boulevard. Needless to say, no one expected her time to be cut so short.
Earlier this year, the State gave notice that they would seek life in prison without the possibility of parole if Montemayor is convicted of murder.
The 56-year-old suspect also faces a Texas Parole Violation tied to a double homicide. Furthermore, he was charged with aggravated assault in 2007 and kidnapping in 1985.
Montemayor, who reportedly tried to take his own life while jailed in Rutherford County in 2019, was released from the adult detention center in September of 2020.
Reports indicate Martin Montemayor is scheduled for trial next year on May 9, 2022 in Rutherford County. The suspect will be represented by public defender Ben Wetzel.
