MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Providence Christian Academy has announced plans for the PCA High School Football program to move to 11-man football and to compete in TSSAA football beginning in Fall 2023.

"We are excited about what our football program brings to our community,” states PCA Head of School, Dr. Andy Sheets.  “Coach Ferguson and the young men who play for him are focused not only on what takes place in practice and under the lights, but what it means to be a man after God’s heart and what it means to play for something bigger than yourself.  They are learning important lessons about life and I’m excited about the expansion of the program and competing in the TSSAA.  God is doing amazing things through athletics at PCA and we can’t wait to share that with the broader community.”

The PCA High School Football team is led by Coach Lebron Ferguson.  Coach Ferguson joined the PCA faculty and staff in 2020 and has more than twenty-seven years of experience coaching football. With the addition of Coach Ferguson, PCA launched eight-man football and began moving toward building an eleven-man team.

“With the growth of our team in the past three years, spiritually, physically, and mentally, as well numerically, it is time for this decision to be made.  Our team is ready to take part in this arena.  We are looking forward to the journey ahead,” states PCA High School Football Head Coach Lebron Ferguson.

Providence Christian is already competing in TSSAA in other sports, including basketball, soccer, golf, track and field and baseball. The High School girls basketball team won the DII-A state title in 2019 and finished runner-up in 2021.  The High School girls golf team won the DII-A state championship in 2021 and 2022.  PCA also has individual TSSAA state championship titles in Golf and Track and Field.

“I am thrilled with the growth of our high school football program and excited to see how God uses this next step in our program to glorify Him.  This is an exciting time for PCA Athletics,” says Coach Tara James, PCA Athletic Director.

PCA is a member of TSSAA for high school sports and TIAA for middle school sports.  Athletic opportunities include twelve sports and more than thirty teams.  PCA has won multiple middle school and high school athletic championships including winning the TIAA Middle School Football Championship in 2021 and 2022.

"While our current facilities are not adequate to support TSSAA football, we are working on short-term solutions until we can fully develop our athletic facilities across the street.  Those 19 acres will be developed in several phases, and include: baseball field, tennis courts, softball field, soccer field, football and track stadium, as well as a field house with locker rooms.  We are committed to providing the best possible facilities for our student-athletes and look forward to seeing our plans come to fruition,” states Dr. Andy Sheets.

PCA was founded in 1996 as an academically advanced, inter-denominational classical Christian school.  PCA’s mission is to teach students to seek God’s truth and equip them with the tools for a lifetime of learning. The school is founded on three pillars that include: Christian Worldview, Classical Education and Parental Involvement.

With parental involvement as one of the pillars of the school, parents are actively involved and engaged in classroom activities and school events. Families have an opportunity to participate in numerous classroom activities, special projects, field trips, chapel, prayer groups, service projects, school events, and more.

Students and faculty cultivate a Christian Worldview through participating in weekly chapel, daily prayer, scripture memorization, advisory programming, student devotions, Bible classes, daily prayer at dismissal, and more.  All students are encouraged to serve the community through participating in service projects at every grade level.

Classical Education at PCA includes the early years of school in the Grammar stage, focused on absorbing facts, systematically laying the foundations for advanced study. In the middle school Logic stage, students learn how to think through arguments.  The high school years culminate in the Rhetoric stage with students learning to express what they believe and why they believe it.

PCA is a non-profit classical Christian school that is founded on the sacrificial gifts of families and supporters.  It is these sacrifices that have played a critical role in the growth and development of the school. God’s ongoing provision through the generous gifts of His people will ensure that Providence Christian Academy continues it’s mission of teaching students to seek God’s truth and equipping them with the tools for a lifetime of learning.

Providence Christian Academy is now accepting student applications for enrollment.  Due to the low student to teacher ratio, classes can fill quickly.  Families interested in learning more may call the PCA office at (615) 904-0902 or visit www.providencechristian.com.
