UPDATE: Lockdown Lifted at Motlow State Community College in Smyrna

Smyrna, TN - Smyrna Police were dispatched to the campus of Motlow State Community College near the North Rutherford YMCA on Wednesday, after being told there was possibly an armed subject on the school grounds. As a result of the call, the school was placed on lockdown as multiple agencies responded.

When police arrived on the campus and quickly met with Motlow security, they moved in to search the premises. During a thorough search of the property, police could not locate any individual who appeared to be armed or who appeared to be a threat to students and staff.

By 4:45 on Wednesday afternoon, Smyrna authorities wrapped up their search and gave the all clear for students and faculty to return to their normal routine.

Misinformation on some social media sites during the incident likely led to heightened fears and worries, Despite the generation of misguided rumors, Smyrna officials confirmed that no shots were fired as some had speculated online. Again, the campus was cleared and everyone returned to their normal schedule.

The lockdown was advised by the Smyrna Police Department to assist their investigation, as noted on the school's website. Campus occupants were instructed to follow lockdown procedures and avoid approaching until an all-clear was given. The spokesperson clarified that no shots had been fired.

Motlow State Community College in Smyrna is now no longer on lockdown.
