RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - After much prayer, reflection, and encouragement from my family, friends, and fellow officers, I, Kenneth Barrett, am proud to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Rutherford County in 2026!
This county isn’t just where I work, it’s my home. I was raised on fourth-generation farmland right here in Rutherford County. It’s where I’ve built my life, raised my family, and dedicated the past 27 years to serving and protecting the people of this community.
At just 20 years old, I stepped into law enforcement, following in my father’s footsteps and began my career as a Detention Officer with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. His example of service and integrity inspired me to dedicate my life to protecting this community. Over the past 27 years, I’ve worked within diverse areas of law enforcement to include Patrol, K9, Detectives, and I’ve had the honor of leading proactive units, managing budgets, and mentoring the next generation of deputies. Today, I serve as a Patrol Lieutenant, and through every role I’ve held, I’ve seen firsthand what works, what needs improvement, and how essential it is to lead with integrity, fairness, and transparency.
I’m not running for a title. I’m running because I believe in this community and in the power of law enforcement that listens, stands firm in truth, and leads with compassion. I will be a Sheriff who is visible, approachable, and deeply connected to the people I serve. My mission is simple: to serve all people with fairness, firmness, and faith.
I pledge to build trust where it’s been broken, protect our neighborhoods without favoritism, and lead with prayer, humility, and purpose. This campaign isn’t just about me, it’s about all of us who want to see Rutherford County safe, united, and proud.
