LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WGNS) - A Sunday morning commute turned into a lengthy delay for travelers in Rutherford County following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 24. The incident, which occurred near the Old Hickory Boulevard exit at mile marker 63.2, resulted in an overturned vehicle and a massive response from emergency services.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the crash was initially reported just after 5:30 a.m. TDOT SmartWay cameras confirmed that at least one vehicle had flipped onto its side, coming to a rest against the concrete median. The impact and cleanup efforts necessitated the closure of the left two westbound lanes and the left shoulder.
As recovery teams worked through the morning, eastbound traffic was also affected, with the far-left lane and shoulder blocked to allow for cleanup operations. Westbound lanes were the first to reopen shortly before 11:00 a.m. By 11:30 a.m., officials confirmed that the eastbound scene was cleared and all lanes were back open. No official word has been released regarding the condition of the occupants or the specific cause of the collision.
