Public Information Officer Donna Tracy in La Vergne Released the Following Details: La Vergne Fire Rescue quickly contained a fire involving exterior storage closets at two residences in the 4000 block of George Buchanan Drive on Wednesday afternoon, preventing the fire from spreading into the homes.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 12:28 p.m. and arrived on scene within minutes with four apparatus and 22 personnel, including command staff.

Initial reports indicated the two residences may be involved; however, upon arrival, crews found active fire in two exterior storage closets attached to the units. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. One storage closet was destroyed, and the second sustained damage.

Smoke was observed coming from the eaves and soffit of one of the residences. Crews entered the home to check for fire extension and encountered a light haze in the attic space. Firefighters confirmed that no fire had extended into the residence.

The residence was equipped with a working smoke alarm.

“There was visible fire on arrival, but crews were able to get it under control quickly,” Battalion Chief Marcus Harney said. “We checked the attic space to make sure there was no extension and ventilated the area to clear the smoke.”

Firefighters remained on scene to ventilate the attic space and ensure no hidden fire remained. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Fire Chief Ronny Beasley noted that residents can take an active role in emergency preparedness through the department’s Community Connect program, which allows individuals to share important information about their home with first responders ahead of an emergency.

“Programs like Community Connect help us respond more effectively by providing critical information before we arrive,” Beasley said. “It also gives residents another layer of awareness by notifying them if their address is involved in an incident.”
