MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A Riverdale High School baseball alumnus is stepping up to lead the Warriors. School officials announced Wayne Kendrick as the new head baseball coach following the retirement of Coach Barry Messer recently. Kendrick played for Riverdale from 2001 to 2003 before taking his talents to Middle Tennessee State University. The Cincinnati Reds drafted Kendrick, and he played professionally in their organization.
Kendrick has coached baseball in Middle Tennessee for nearly two decades. He started as an assistant at Riverdale in 2009 and later served as the head coach at Christiana Middle School. He returned to the Riverdale dugout as an assistant in 2020 and has been a vital part of the staff ever since. Principal Tamera Blair says Kendrick cares deeply about student-athletes and understands the culture of success at Riverdale.
