MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department crews rushed to the scene of a vehicle fire on Interstate 24 Eastbound on Thursday evening. The blaze broke out near the heavily traveled Medical Center Parkway exit.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they found the cab and engine compartment of a semi-truck fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from Ladder 11, Rescue 11, and Engine 9 went to work immediately. Their fast action brought the intense fire under control quickly, which prevented the flames from spreading into the attached trailer and destroying the cargo inside. Safety 1 and both Battalion Chief 1 and 2 also responded to coordinate the highway operation.
The fire forced officials to temporarily shut down two eastbound lanes of I-24 to ensure the safety of the crews on the asphalt. Investigators have not yet released the cause of the fire.
