LA VERGNE, Tenn. — A high-speed police chase that reportedly stretched across portions of La Vergne and Antioch ended with the arrest of a juvenile driver after officers say the suspect refused to pull over during an attempted traffic stop early yesterday morning.

According to information released by the La Vergne Police Department, officers initially attempted to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle after allegedly observing it traveling at an excessive speed on Stones River Road.

Authorities stated the driver reportedly ignored emergency equipment and accelerated away from patrol units, allegedly reaching speeds of nearly 80 miles per hour in a posted 40 MPH zone. Investigators claim the vehicle was being operated recklessly while the driver struggled to maintain control.

Because of the potential danger to surrounding motorists, law enforcement supervisors authorized a pursuit that continued through sections of southern Davidson County, just outside of Rutherford County.

The La Vergne Police Department said in a release that several passengers allegedly exited the moving vehicle at different points during the chase. Officers also reportedly witnessed objects being thrown from the automobile while the pursuit remained underway.

Police indicated the incident covered approximately 25 miles over a span of about 25 minutes before the driver eventually pulled into a local business parking lot and surrendered without additional confrontation.

After stopping the vehicle, officers reportedly discovered alcoholic beverages inside the automobile, including at least one open container.

The juvenile driver now faces multiple charges, including felony evading arrest, reckless driving, felony reckless endangerment, DUI, joyriding, possession of alcohol by a minor, and driving without a license.

Authorities additionally reported that one passenger received a citation for evading law enforcement, while another occupant suffered minor injuries after allegedly jumping from the moving vehicle during the incident.

In a public statement, the department emphasized the dangers associated with reckless driving, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and fleeing from police.

The La Vergne Police Department said in a release, “Excessive speed, impaired driving, and fleeing from law enforcement endanger not only those involved, but every motorist and family sharing the roadway.”

Officials also praised the coordinated response from officers involved in the pursuit, noting that the situation concluded without serious injuries to innocent motorists or nearby residents.

UNRELATED INCIDENT:  In a separate incident that unfolded just days before the latest pursuit, officers with the La Vergne Police Department reportedly attempted to stop a motorist for reckless driving around 4:00 Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the driver allegedly refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit that eventually came to an end when the suspect stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, officers reportedly discovered illegal narcotics along with a firearm inside the automobile. Authorities also learned the suspect was allegedly wanted on five active warrants issued by outside agencies.

The individual now faces charges that include DUI, Simple Possession of a Schedule II substance, Possession of a Handgun While Intoxicated, Felony Evading, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While Revoked.

The La Vergne Police Department emphasized that reckless and impaired driving can create dangerous conditions for everyone traveling local roadways. Officials also noted that proactive enforcement efforts remain focused on removing illegal drugs and firearms from the community while holding offenders accountable.

Police credited the actions of responding officers with helping bring the situation to a safe conclusion before innocent motorists or nearby residents were harmed.
