A record crowd was on hand for the Salvation Army of Rutherford and Cannon Counties' "Beyond the Bells" Luncheon. Over three hundred community members were at Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro for this year's event, with honorary chair Diane Turnham. She's the Associate Athletic Director at MTSU. Guests also had the opportunity to hear from new MTSU men's basketball coach Nick McDevitt.

Thanks to the community's support, the Salvation Army was able to raise over 70-thousand dollars. Every one will go to keep services like daily meals, homeless shelter and life recovery programs going.

When you think of the Salvation Army many of us think about a time when we reached into our pockets or purses and pulled out some change to put in the Red Kettle. What happens with your nickels, dimes, and dollars? Do you know about the vast impact The Salvation Army of Rutherford and Cannon Counties has on our community?

Wednesday, May 9th, The Salvation Army of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is holding its annual Beyond the Bells luncheon to give the community an opportunity to learn more about how our local Salvation Army is providing hope to families through their ministries and services including a 34 bed homeless shelter, youth and music programs, The Salvation Army Angel Tree Christmas Program, and a daily community meal that is open to the public 365 days a year, to name a few.

"We're hoping the Beyond the Bells Luncheon inspires passion and raises awareness in our community to help us gain the much needed support and funds allowing us to continue to meet the needs of our growing community." Captain Joseph Irvin said.

Betsy Maples Taylor, Steering Committee Chair said, "This year we will also be honoring the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon County as our Community Spotlight Partner and Senior Associate Athletic Director Diane Turnham from MTSU is the our Honorary Chair."

You will also have a chance to meet new MTSU men's basketball coach Nick McDevitt.

Join Captain Joseph Irvin, Betsy Maples Taylor, and other community leaders at Embassy Suites on May 9th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. to learn more about The Salvation Army's vital mission. Doors open at 11:30am.
