Mr. Jon Drew Dohoda, age 62, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away Monday, November 28, 2022. He was born in Downey, CA to the late Peter and Arleene Joan Dohoda. Mr. Dohoda was a 1978 graduate of Yuciapa High School and a 1983 graduate of California State University of San Bernardino. He spent most of his career as a mortgage underwriter. Mr. Dohoda was a passionate, faithful man. He enjoyed the ride either in his 1992 Corvette or one of his motorcycles.
Mr. Dohoda is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rebecca Dohoda; daughters, Kayla Crowley and her husband Timothy, Myriah Czap and her husband Travis, and Taylor Dohoda; grandchildren, Parker Drew Crowley, Camden Lucas Crowley, and Evelyn Drew Czap; siblings, David Dohoda and his wife Katie and Deanne Youngblood and her husband John; special niece, Danelle Afflerbaugh; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Peter Dohoda.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at New Vision Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 6:00pm at New Vision Baptist Church.
Mr. William Michael "Big Mike" Swander, 62, of Woodbury, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He was born in Fremont, Ohio on Sunday, January 24, 1960. Preceding him in death were his adopted parents, Delbert and Anna Swander, and brother, Larry Swander. He is survived by his wife, Tracie Swander of Woodbury; sons, Zachary Edmiston of McMinnville and Michael (Ashley Morris) Swander of Woodbury; stepchildren, Michael (Ashley) Utley of Watertown, Matthew (Linda Tierney) Utley of Smyrna, Chelsea (Austin Saeger) Utley of Woodbury, and Nikki (James Becknell) Carman of Manchester; biological mother, Barbara Morrison of Brighton, Michigan; biological father, Elbert Harris; sisters, Dawn Morrison, Beth Morrison, and Gail Morrison all of Michigan; 17 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild on the way; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Most people call it just being a boy, but for Big Mike, that endless energy followed him throughout his life. He was a
man of action and couldn't be still. He was born in Ohio, raised in Florida, and lived in Alabama, Michigan, and Tennessee as an adult. His zest for life and sense of humor gave Big Mike an unbreakable spirit, and he never got too busy for others. All in all, Big Mike was a wonderful man who brought joy to everyone he met. He loved and was loved by so many. His presence and influence will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Emily Fleming, age 75, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Edgar “Nig” and Louise Burris Taylor; husband, Thomas Fleming;
and sister, Patsy Edwards.
She is survived by her children, Mark Fleming and his wife Robin, Kevin Fleming,
Bryant Fleming, and Pamela Fleming; grandchildren, Michael Fleming, Jason Fleming
(Lauren), Chrystal Fleming (Michael), Blake Fleming (Faith), Johnathan Mason, Ashley
Fleming, Paige Roberson (Johnathon); ten great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Powell;
nieces; nephews; and many other family and friends.
Mrs. Fleming was a bus driver for Rutherford County for 43 years. She was a loving
mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Woodfin Memorial
Chapel from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral service will be Friday, December 2, 2022 at
Woodfin Memorial Chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial
Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Margie Lee Steele Calkins, age 70, of Smyrna, TN, died Friday, November 25, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Pell City, AL and was a daughter of the late James William Steele and Frances Evelyn Posten Steele. Mrs. Betty was a homemaker and an active member of the Old Path Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church secretary. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marty Cade, sister, Elizabeth Conway, and brothers, David Steele, Jimmy Steele, and Gary Steele.
Mrs. Margie loved reading books, crocheting, and spending time with her “Golden Girls”. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and spoiling them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Calkins is survived by her loving children, Charles (Angie) Abbott of White House, TN, Mitchell Abbott of Old Hickory, TN, Darlinda (Eric) Cumbee of Murfreesboro, TN, Frances (Andrew) Richter of Eagleville, TN, Amanda (Brock) Adams of Eagleville, TN; 16 grandchildren, Brookelynn, Jacob, A’Raeyah Sunshine, Christopher, Tyler, Heaven, Britney, Elizabeth, Mason, Madelyn, Ellie, Bodie, Breanna, Floyd, Corbin, Pauline “Pea”; 4 great grandchildren, Sunleigh, Skylar, Alex, Emma; sister, Mary “Sluppy” Steele of Gainesville, FL; brothers, Roger Steele of Hermitage, TN and Robert Steele of Nashville, TN.

Helen Morton Tucker Smith, age 100 of Murfreesboro, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her
loved ones on Saturday, November 26, 2022. She was a native of Winchester, TN and a daughter of
the late Clint and Betty Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her
husband, Duncan Smith; a brother, Charles Tucker; and sisters, Elizabeth Bratton, Virginia Garner,
and Margaret Moon.
Survivors include her sons, Roger Smith and wife Patti of Eagleville and Charles Smith and wife
Sherry of Murfreesboro; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and five great great
grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a host of other family, friends and caregivers including
Beryl Pixley, Raylene Carleton-Wood, Sylvia Gerhart, and Nina Borgen. She will also be dearly missed
by her church family at Salem United Methodist Church where she not only was the oldest member
but was also the church organist for over 50 years. Known as an extremely talented musician and a
beautiful piano player, she was taught by her mother who was a music teacher at Sewanee.
She was a 1940 graduate of Franklin County High School and shortly after graduation, she left for
Washington, DC to work at the Pentagon during WW2. Following the war, she returned to Tennessee
where she began her marriage of 57 years to Duncan Smith. She retired from State Farm as their first
female underwriter in 1985 after 35 years of service. She was an avid bridge player and loved to travel,
especially with her friend, Sissy Dismukes. She enjoyed knitting and it was with a servant’s heart that
she often made blankets and baby caps for the hospital nursery. Helen was also talented at
needlepoint and filled her home with beautiful tapestries.
Graveside services will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery with Bro.
Thad Collier officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Helen to the Salem
United Methodist Church.

Mary Frances Colvin Hughes, age 88 died Friday, November 25, 2022. A native of Huntsville, AL, and longtime resident of Pulaski, TN, she was the daughter of J. R. and Rosa Lockridge Colvin. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ray Hughes, brother, J. P. Colvin, sisters, Marie Edwards, Louise Dunavant, and Betty Biles.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughters, Roseann Barton of Murfreesboro, TN, Fran Rawleigh and her husband Alex of Huntsville, AL, and Amy Dewberry and her husband Ross of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Hughes Barton, Sarah Jane Barton, Sydney Rawls and her husband Jarett, Brooke Higginbotham and her husband Matt, and John Ross Dewberry; great-grandson, Baker Rawls.
Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Jim Clardy officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Hughes Barton, John Ross Dewberry, Jarett Rawls, Matt Higginbotham, Ross Dewberry, and Alex Rawleigh serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hughes was an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and was a retired Rutherford County teacher after 30 years of service at Lascassas Elementary School. Mrs. Hughes was the wife of Ray Hughes, a career coach and teacher, and she was an avid football fan and loyal supporter of his teams.
Mrs. Hughes was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a loving caregiver to her husband for the last ten years of his life.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice in memory of Mary Frances Hughes.

Stephen Duke, age 73 of Murfreesboro died Thursday, November 24, 2022, at his home surrounded
by his family. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee and raised in Woodbury, he was a son of the late Orville
Wesley Duke and Kathleen Smith Duke. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a
grandson, Tyler Bradley.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Linda Duke; his children, Brian Duke and Kyle Duke and his
wife Deanna, all of Murfreesboro, Adam Duke and wife Ginger of Rockvale, Julie Dance and husband
John of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Patrick Hale and wife Danielle of Christiana, TN; sisters, Susan Potts
and husband John of Smyrna, Liz Krueger and husband TC of Nashville; and Treva Travis and
husband Nolan of Woodbury; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and a host of other
loving family and friends.
Stephen was a graduate of MTSU where he was a founding member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and later the Army National Guard.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 10:00am until the time of funeral services
beginning at 11:00am at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Ivy
Bluff Methodist Church Cemetery in Cannon County with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
