Mrs. Betty Jo Davenport Whitehead, 88, of Bradyville, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born to the late Lawrence Elmer and Verna Lee Watson Davenport on Thursday, September 17, 1936 in Woodbury, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel and Ida Richards Davenport and Joseph B. and Eliza J. Stone Watson; brothers, Kenneth Watson (Myla) Davenport, Thomas Jewell Davenport, Elmer Ray Davenport, and Billie David Davenport; sister, Mary Helen (Thomas) Holden; niece, Ginger Davenport; and nephew, Gary Davenport.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil Whitehead; children, Cheryl L. Whitehead (Mark) Faiola, Kenneth Michael Watson, and Steven Ray Whitehead; uncle, Wayne (Cherie) Watson; nieces, Debbie Milligan Joseph, Peggy Davenport Messmer, Theresa Davenport Batey, Connie Davenport, and Karen Davenport; nephews, Bruce Davenport, Kenneth Davenport, and Ray Lawrence Davenport; grandchildren, Christopher E. (Michelle) Fowles, Laura N. Fowles, Michael Maxwell Watson, Westley K. Whitehead, Jessica L. Betty Cox

Mrs. Betty Ann Stephens Cox, age 87, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 22, 2025. She was a native of Murfreesboro and the only child of the late Frank and Anne Mullins Stephens. Mrs. Cox was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Middle Tennessee State College in 1959. She was involved with Girls Scouts of America and World Bible Study at North Boulevard Church of Christ where she was a long-time member.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her children, Billy Cox, Jr. and his wife Pat, Stephen D’Andrea and his wife Frances Mary, Teresa Watts and her husband DeWayne, Sharon Mangrum and her husband Kent, Kristi Barnes, Amy Bradley and her husband Arthur, and Gena Payne and her husband Jeremy; grandchildren, Wendy, Jennifer, Jeremiah, Rebecca, Mikayla, Tyler, Ryan, Alexandria, and Nathan; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Kendall, and Lilliann.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will be private.

Services for Ella Virginia Smith of Murfreesboro, who died peacefully surrounded
by family on January 17, 2025, at the age of 91, will be at Woodfin Memorial
Chapel in Murfreesboro. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM until
services at 12:00 PM on Saturday January 25th. Burial will be at Gardens of
Memory on Manchester Hwy in Morrison, TN.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Donald Ward Smith in
2011. She was the daughter of Margaret Rollins and was also preceded in death by
sisters Velma, Hannah, and brothers Johnny and Marcus.
She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Virginia is survived by daughters Paula Lieb (Jim) and Cathy Phillips (Jeff),
grandchildren Stephanie Spicer (Daniel), Brent Hulsey (Rebecca), Amanda Farris
(John), Donald “DJ” Phillips (Samantha), Taylor Phillips and great grandchildren,
Alexandra, Donovan, Addison, Lila, Jayden, Cali, Isaiah, and Aaralyn.
Virginia was an all-star basketball player at Morrison H.S. and led her team to
Statewide recognition and won numerous awards for her outstanding play. She
loved to cook and did so for countless family celebrations and holidays. Her
signature homemade fried apple pies were the hit of every holiday season. Virginia
loved being outdoors and spent weeks camping with her family and friends on
Center Hill Lake.

Carlos Dunn

Mr. Carlos R. Dunn, age 76, of Fayetteville, TN formerly of Chapel Hill, TN, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 in Nashville, TN.  Carlos was born in Centerville, TN and was a son of the late Carl Edward Dunn and Mary Lou Daniels Dunn.  He was retired from Sessions Paving after many years of service.  Mr. Dunn was a member of West Fayetteville Church of Christ.  In addition to his parents, Carlos was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Spray and her husband, Larry Spray.

 

Mr. Carlos loved hunting and fishing.  He was an avid gardener, loved mowing grass, and working outdoors.  He had a passion for cooking and baking things for his family and friends.  He enjoyed playing with Dakota Jo, his beloved fur baby.  You could find Carlos watching football and western movies.  Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

 

Mr. Dunn is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Teresa D. Diviney Dunn of Fayetteville, TN; children Carlos Ray Dunn, Jr. (Jayme) of Chapel Hill, TN, Carla Todd (Dee) of Fayetteville, TN; 5 grandchildren, Max Dalton Todd (Emili), Joseph Dillan Todd, Kaydee A. Todd Miller (Isaiah), Leah Mackenzie Dunn, Megan Rae Dunn; 1 great grandchild, Gwendolynne Marie Todd; sisters, Margaret Blake (Tom) of Madison, TN, Mary Etta Lavender (Ken) of Fairview, TN, Jude Norris (Brad) of Mt. Juliet, TN; and a brother, Donnie Dunn (Michelle) of Pegram, TN.

 

Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until 2 PM on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Lawrence Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be conducted at 2 PM on Friday, January 24, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Miller officiating.  Interment will follow at Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill, TN.

 

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Margaret Lewis

Margaret Virginia Lewis, age 82, of LaVergne, passed away the morning of January 17, 2025 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro after a brief illness. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Samual Clyde and Katie Mae Gregory Thomas; four brothers, Claude, Bub, Jack, and Mikey Thomas as well as three sisters, Mary Lou Deal & Jean Warren, and Vicki Gilley. Born on the Panhandle in Manchester, TN, Virginia grew up and graduated from Central High School and soon married Joseph Daniel "JD" Lewis of Cannon County with whom she started a family that continues to grow. Her husband of 63 years survives her as well as their three children, oldest son Keith Lewis and his wife Renee, younger son Phillip Lewis, and daughter Teresa Howell and her husband Jimmy, beloved grandchildren, Shelbie King (Justin) and Jesse Lewis, Matthew (Ashley) and Mychael (Stephanie) Howell and great- grandchildren Roman and his newborn sister Audrey King as well as Haylee, Jace, Jaxon, Nolan and Archie Howell.


Needless to say, we are going to miss her but she is in a much better place with her loud, fun-loving family and friends that she's missed for so long. She would tell you she was very lucky to have the life she had and we were even luckier to share some of it with her.


There will be a private graveside service for family and close friends and an informal get-together to celebrate her when the weather warms. In lieu of flowers, buy yourself a lottery ticket or put a $5 in a machine in her memory because you just never know. You might hit the Jackpot.


Greg Price

Mr. Gregory “Greg” Stratton Price, age 61, of Lebanon, TN passed away Monday, January 13, 2025. He was born in Huntington, WV to the late Frank and Shirley Dillow Price. Greg was a truck driver and dump truck driver for Bass Trucking & Excavating for many years. He enjoyed watching trains and airplanes.

Greg is survived by his fiancée, Sandy Worley; siblings, Curtis Price, Jeffrey Price, and Sally Wittner; nephew, Chistopher Price; son, Nathan Price; grandson, Clark Jones; and faithful canine companion, Bentley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Sean Price.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Edythe Roberts

Edythe L. Roberts, age 93, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Velma Chapman; and granddaughter, Nikki Roberts.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Roberts; son, Dennis Roberts and his wife Sue; grandchildren, Leah Getchel (Chad) and their children, Brigette Adkins; great grandchildren, Gillyanne Adkins and Finnlay Osman; cousin, Faye McCaleb; and other family and friends.

Edythe was a long-time member of Belle Aire Baptist Church. She retired from Tennessee Tech University after 28 years. She was a kind soul who loved and cared deeply for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, TN from 1:00-3:00 PM.


Morris Berry

Morris Edwin “Ranger” Berry, Sr., age 85 of Rockvale died Sunday January 19, 2025. He was a native of Maben, MS and was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Margie Nell Berry. He was also preceded in death by his parents, J.W. “Jim” and Nellie Mae Hurst Berry; brothers, Tommy, Jacks, and Jimmy Berry, also son, Morris Edwin, Berry, Jr.

Mr. Berry attended Windrow Church of Christ and was the owner of Berry Construction Company and involved in the building of hundreds of apartments, and new homes after moving to TN.

He was involved in the formation of LaVergne Jr. Pro Football League and Coached for several years. He also coached Little League Baseball in Smyrna, many of his players went on to play Men’s Softball under his coaching. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports.

Mr. Berry is survived by his children, Karen Gipson and her husband Mike, Rick Berry, Bill Berry and his wife Tammy, Linda Barrett , Tammy Hoover and husband Robert; grandchildren, David Berry and wife Christy, Alisha Gallas and husband Josh, Ryan Berry, Anthony Gipson and wife Eva, Josh Gipson and wife Ambrea, Robert Gipson and wife Brooke, Eric Berry and wife Sarah, Kristen Born and husband Chad, Adam Berry and wife Yaasameen, Casey Conard, Shane Barrett and wife Chelsea, Katie Grandberry, Tommy Hoover and wife Madison; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-n-law, Lyneen Berry Gann.

Marilyn Kay Ramsey Barnes, age 77, of Murfreesboro, TN, was born on June 27, 1947, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 19, 2025. A native of Sumner County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Crystell Keen Ramsey.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Ray Barnes of Murfreesboro, TN; three daughters, Karen Redmon and her husband Todd, Leigh Mangum and her husband Greg, and Jennifer Ridgeway and her husband Lee all of Murfreesboro, TN; eight grandchildren, Kayla Seagle and her husband Mac, Kylee Mangum, Tyler Redmon, Abbie Messick and her husband Justin, Hannah Ridgeway, Raelee Ridgeway, Jackson Ridgeway and Cooper Mangum; one brother, James Robert Ramsey and sister in law, Bobbie Rasmey of Gallatin, TN; sister in law, Kaye Crain and her husband Lannie of Pine, LA; four nieces, Lyn Taylor and her husband Ronnie, Cynthia Pope and her husband Chris, Christina Maclean and her husband Cam, and Kendra Jackson and her husband Bobby, along with several great nieces and nephews.
