Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold will be in federal court for a special hearing at 10:30 Wednesday (1/18/2017) morning. He is expected to enter a guilty plea as part of a deal with federal prosecutors.

NewsChannel 5 reports that Arnold's attorney will also seek his release from jail while he awaits formal sentencing. He has been jailed in Leitchfield, Kentucky at the Grayson County Detention Center after his bond was revoked.

If the plea arrangement is approved, Arnold could still have to serve five to ten years in federal prison and there is no guarantee that he will be released from jail. It will all be up to the judge at the Wednesday morning special hearing.

If the plea bargain is approved, there would more than likely not be a February 7, 2017 trial.

In addition, former jail administrator Joe Russell and Arnold's uncle John Vanderveer are expected to reach plea deals as well.
