Man armed with a unique Katar tries to rob Murfreesboro man

An armed robbery was reported in Murfreesboro in recent days. Police responded Old Salem Road near West Castle Street where they met with the victim who told them, "[The victim] stated that he was walking on Old Salem Road when a male subject with a ski mask came out from under the bridge - [the victim] stated that the male subject had a katar in his hand."

A katar is a weapon characterized by its H-shaped horizontal hand grip which results in the blade sitting above the knuckles. The weapon is unique to South Asia.

The report went on to state, "[The victim] stated that the make subject came at him with the katar and told him to give him his bike and his wallet." The man who filed the report defended himself by punching the robber in the sternum several times. The masked man then fled the scene on foot. The 20-year old victim received only minor injuries in the robbery and refused medical treatment.

At this point, the case is under investigation. Police reports show that an arrest has not been made as of Wednesday.
