Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is expected to enter a guilty plea as part of a deal with federal prosecutors.
A 40-year old man was attacked by another man armed with a hammer. The incident took place at an apartment complex on Battleground Drive.
The victim says that after a night of drinking with friend’s, they went back to one of the acquaintances apartment. Once at the apartment, the 45-year old suspect retrieved a hammer from his truck and chased after the victim for no known reason.
The victim tried to dodge the blows from the hammer, but was struck in the hand and the back of the head. After the attack, the culprit fled the scene. Police and paramedics were called and the victim was treated for his injuries on site, but refused to be transported to the hospital.
Because the suspect did not stick around, he could not be arrested. It will now be up to the victim to file a warrant for the subject’s arrest. According to a police report filed after the attack, the victim does not want to press charges.
