Christmas is just around the corner and crime has definitely increased in Rutherford County in recent weeks. One of the most reported crimes right now, according to reports reviewed by WGNS, is burglary. Multiple homes have been broken into and it looks like flat screen televisions and jewelry are hot items for thieves this holiday season.

Crimes over the internet are also on the upswing. One Murfreesboro resident phoned the police after selling a $4,000 diamond ring on CraigsList. A buyer out of Memphis made contact with the seller who lives on North Tennessee Boulevard and told him she wanted to purchase the ring. The victim then received what he thought was confirmation of a payment through PayPal. The victim proceeded to mail the ring to the culprit. The victim later found out the payment he thought he received through PayPal was no good.
