One of the main roads leading into one of the largest neighborhoods in the state of Tennessee is about to be re-paved. The construction will take place at the Lake Forest subdivision in LaVergne, home to more than 3,000 families. The road is scheduled for paving during the week of October 29, 2012.  Additionally, the battered Chaney Roadwill be repaved immediately after the sidewalks are completed, weather permitting.

The sidewalk onFergus Roadwas funded largely by a grant from TDOT, but has been on hold since 2000.  The sidewalk onChaney Roadwas approved in 2006, with funding also coming from TDOT. Both grants were 80:20 grants. TheFergus Roadbid was $211,302.81 and theChaney Roadbid was $469,687.50, so the city ofLa Vergnewould pay about $136,000.

Street Supervisor Garlon Russell had both streets on his list for paving, but was waiting for the sidewalk projects to be completed first to keep from tearing up the new streets.

“Paving on Fergus will be done from where the sidewalk starts atHeritageValleyParkup to just beforeMurfreesboro Road,” Russell said. “When we get to Chaney and if the weather holds for us, we will pave about 600 feet of Old Nashville Highway which will include that rough intersection. Then we will take the paving upChaney Roadto the LHS football field at the city line.”

Russell added thatSanford Roadwill also be paved when Chaney is being done from Chaney Roadto the back of Almondwood Place.

The sidewalk onChaney Roadis tentatively scheduled for completion on or about November 13. Except for minor work, the Fergus Road sidewalk is done and will be formally opened on November 1 at 9:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting.
