The Veterans Affairs Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is hosting an open house at their Alvin C. York campus Wednesday, 1 Nov. from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

The event is part of a national VA effort to expand recognition of Veterans beyond Veterans Day to include the entire month of November. TVHS will kick off its efforts with the open house, aimed at highlighting the services it offers to Veterans in Tennessee and Kentucky.

"The nation sets aside a special day for Veterans, but we want to expand on that and take this opportunity to show Veterans what we're capable of doing for them year-round," said TVHS Director Jennifer Vedral-Baron.

Representatives from various programs within the health care system will set up information tables and be on hand to discuss their services. Among these are the TVHS homeless program, women's health, audiology and speech pathology, suicide prevention, and prosthetics. Experts will also be standing by to explain health care eligibility and enrollment, the VA's Choice program, and TVHS employment opportunities.

The event is free and open to all Veterans.

"Every day is Veterans Day for us," said Vedral-Baron. "We're focused on serving these men and women who have bravely served our country, and we want them to know that."

TVHS is an integrated tertiary health care system comprised of two hospitals, the Alvin C. York Campus in Murfreesboro and the Nashville Campus, as well as more than a dozen community-based outpatient clinics located in Tennessee and Kentucky. TVHS provides ambulatory care, primary care, and secondary care in acute medicine and surgery, specialized tertiary care, transplant services, spinal cord injury outpatient care, and a full range of extended care and mental health services.
