The Salvation Army of Rutherford and Cannon Counties has been selected as a recipient of multiple grants in a collaboration project that will help the undeserved community plan, purchase, prepare and provide nutritious meals more efficiently to their families.

The Community Wellness Council of Rutherford County has awarded a $2,000 mini-grant. An additional $3,000 has been awarded by the Cooking Matters organization that is associated with No Kid Hungry and the Walmart Foundation.

This grant money will support new Salvation Army programs that will empower families with the skills they need to stretch their food budgets and cook healthy meals so their children get the healthy food they need every day.

Jennifer Kelton and Sarah Murfree with Hero (Health-Education-Research-Organization) volunteered their time and talents to help with these grants and will continue to be part of a team of professionals that will implement this this much-needed program for the local community.

"We are grateful to collaborate and build these new relationships to help the community we serve every day," said Captain Monica Seiler.
