Residents enjoy a wide selection of farm-fresh produce, honey, baked goods and even plants and bushes at two farmer's markets weekly here in Murfreesboro.

Tuesday and Friday Mornings

The oldest one is at the Lane Agri-Park at 315 John R. Rice Boulevard. This event is twice weekly: Tuesday and Friday mornings from 7:00AM to noon through October. Several years ago the Rutherford County Agricultural Extension Program decided to build one of the finest markets in the nation. Local officials visited the top locations and took notes on what made those facilities rank "tops". The best features were put into the plans of the facility here in Murfreesboro, which is next to the Pet Adoption Welfare Service (known as PAWS as well as Rutherford County Animal Control). The agriculture office watches participants closely to assure that the goods are really locally grown and produced.

Saturday Mornings

The Saturday morning Marketplace is from 8:00 o'clock to noon around the historic Rutherford County Courthouse. It is coordinated by the Main Street Renovation Program and offers a feeling of "community" with fresh produce, craft items, soap, baked goods and more--not all necessarily locally grown and produced. This popular Saturday morning event continues through October, and is one way newcomers are drawn to the Murfreesboro square to sample its unique ambiance.

Downtown businesses are even adding to the fun, like Maple Street Grill's new Saturday brunch (7AM-2PM).
