Citizens are invited to remember the victims of the 9-11 terrorists' attacks during a solemn ceremony at the 9-11 Memorial at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

Keynote speaker will be U.S. Navy Commander Todd Sullivan, the executive officer of the Navy Recruiting District in Nashville.

Commander Sullivan has earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medals and Good Conduct awards. He is most proud of the Navy Battle "E" Efficiency awards he has earned alongside his shipmates.

The event will start at 5 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro and WGNS' Bart Walker will serve as emcee of this solemn event. It is expected to last about 30 minutes.

Sheriff Robert Arnold said Honor Guards and Explorer Scouts will participate.

"We want to remember the victims, including citizens and responding emergency workers, who were killed Sept. 11, 2001," Sheriff Arnold said. "We also want to remember the military that responded and protected our country since then."
