A New Homeless Shelter Expected in Murfreesboro

The homeless population appears to be increasing in Rutherford County, but what are individuals doing to make a difference? Ed Grimes, founder of the latest non-profit called the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission, told WGNS he has a dream of opening a new homeless shelter in our community. Grimes highlighted the fact that local residents are seeing more and more panhandlers on the street. He commented on giving panhandlers cash versus donating money to an organization that helps the homeless population…

Grimes suggested Murfreesboro does not have an adequate number of beds available for the homeless. Currently, Murfreesboro has three main homeless shelters. Those shelters include the Salvation Army, Room in the Inn and the Way of Hope.

Grimes aims to open a physical location for the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission with the help of donors. He is working to find a piece of property that could serve others.
