Alcoa Downs Blackman; Bart Smith Field Dedicated

Aug 24, 2019 at 11:17 pm by bryan

The dedication of Bart Smith Field at Blackman and the return of Gary Rankin to Rutherford County made the Blaze matchup with Alcoa a special night.

In the end, it was the Tornadoes that took the 23-14 victory.

After Alcoa took a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter, Blackman quickly answered on a run by senior Antonio Malone:

The Blaze would add another score with 19-seconds left in the first half. It was just enough time for Alcoa's J.R. Jones to take a kickoff return 88-yards for a touchdown.

The Tornadoes took a 16-14 lead midway through the third quarter and tacked on another in the fourth to seal the victory. Their defense made it hard on Blackman's offense. They had just 43-yards of offense in the second half.

The Blaze ended the game with 225-yards in total offense (207 rushing, 18 passing).

It doesn't get any easier for Blackman as they host preseason favorite Ravenwood next Friday night.
