3rd "Operation Fall Brakes" in Rutherford County Cancelled, due to Excessive Rain

(Rutherford County, TN) On Wednesday, Law Enforcement Officers in Rutherford County aimed to have a heavy concentration on aggressive and reckless driving on I-24, Veterans Parkway and Sam Ridley Parkway. However, rainfall cancelled those plans. Once the excess rain passes, the Highway Patrol and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office will likely announce a new date to increase patrol that focuses on aggressive and reckless drivers.

In November, Citations were issued to drivers on 242 driving offenses during the second “Operation Fall Brakes.”  During the special operation, 55-drivers were cited for speeding and 34-drivers were cited for using their cell phones while driving.

Drivers driving aggressively and recklessly was the planned focus of the third “Operation Fall Brakes” enforcement event that was scheduled for Wednesday in Rutherford County.

Under Operation Fall Brakes, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers, Murfreesboro and Smyrna Police and Sheriff’s Office deputies add extra patrol to area roadways to watch for drivers driving aggressively or recklessly and speeding, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Sean Vinson.

The scheduled event was part of a planned enforcement and education strategy to promote safer driving on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County. Calls and complaints about aggressive driving led to the introduction of Operation Fall Brakes. As a result of the two previous planned events, Sgt. Vinson said, “The call volume regarding reckless and aggressive driving has been reduced.” Vinson stated, “There is a positive effect that is taking place.”

Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Shawn Boyd said, “Our goal is to maintain good driving habits.” Boyd continued, “We will continue to do driving enforcement on Interstate 24.”

During past special operation events, troopers and deputies concentrated on I-24 from the Davidson County line to the Coffee County line. Murfreesboro Police patrolled on Veterans Parkway near Interstate 840 and Smyrna Police oversaw Sam Ridley Parkway off of I-24.

The special concentration and overtime patrol during Operation Fall Brakes is paid for with THSO grant funds.
