UPDATE: (REPORT DIRECTLY FROM Council on American-Islamic Relations) -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, Tuesday (7/18/17) called on federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the vandalism of a Tennessee Muslim's vehicle as a possible hate crime.

Murfreesboro, Tenn., police say vandals left pieces of pork bologna and a used condom on the man's car. His wife wears an Islamic head scarf, or hijab. [NOTE: Anti-Muslim bigots often use pigs or pork products to intentionally offend Muslims because of the Islamic prohibition on consuming pork products.] Local police are treating the incident as a bias-motivated crime. The FBI has been notified of the vandalism.

"These types of incidents are now occurring with such frequency that state and national leaders must address the rising level of bigotry that has resulted in an unprecedented number of hate crimes targeting American Muslims and other minority groups," said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

Last week, CAIR called for a hate crime investigation of vandalism targeting a Tennessee mosque. In that attack, slices of bacon were also used to spell out some messages and bacon was wrapped around one of the exterior doors of the mosque.

Earlier today, CAIR's Georgia chapter called on mosques in that state and around the country to alert law enforcement authorities if they receive threatening phone calls from a right-wing extremist who has repeatedly threatened to attack a Georgia mosque.

Original WGNS Story Below:

The Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating a potentially biased-based crime involving a Murfreesboro resident.

The victim reported that someone placed five pieces of bologna and a used condom on his vehicle during the overnight hours on Sunday night or early Monday morning (July 16/ July 17, 2017). The bologna caused damage to the paint on the victim's BMW in excess of $1,000.

The complainant stated the vandalism is likely anti-Islamic because he practices Islam and his wife wears a head dress. The victim stated that he has not experienced any other issues in the time he has lived at the Veterans Pkwy. apartment complex near Barfield School.

Bologna is a sausage made of pork often mixed with beef, fat, salt and spices. The more expensive brands or traditional bologna is typically made of only pork, pork fat, salt and spices. The meat is then stuffed into a special casing and smoked.

As many realize, pork is a meat that is forbidden by Muslims. In fact, there are several verses in the Quran that touch base on the forbidden meat (Some of the verses include: 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115).

The case has been assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been notified.

A previous case that occurred outside the city limits of Murfreesboro happened at the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, which is the site of a mosque off of Bradyville Pike at Veals Road. There, unknown persons placed bacon outside of the mosque and spray painted graffiti on the building (See story here).
