A 22-year old Veterans Parkway resident has been picked up on shoplifting charges that were filed by both Target on Old Fort Parkway and Dick's Sporting Goods in the Avenue.

Brandon Clay Bellamy was charged with one count of "Theft Over $1,000" and one count of "Theft Under $500."

Bellamy was booked under a $24,000 bond. He remains behind bars at this time.

According to the online Small Business Chronicle, shoplifting can have a sizable impact on businesses, "The most direct financial effect of shoplifting is that it eats away at your revenue and profits." A loss of inventory also equals higher prices for customers if the problem gets out of hand. Increased security measures to reduce shoplifting are also expensive and the price must be passed on to the customer in order for a profit to be maintained.
