Zombies Coming to Murfreesboro

Oct 13, 2013 at 03:04 pm by Bryan Barrett

Zombies will take to the streets of Murfreesboro on October 19, 2013 for the first-ever Zombie Walk presented by Youth Empowerment through Arts & Humanities (YEAH!). The Zombie Walk is a free, fun charity-based event bringing together costumers, fans, and all wanting to release the inner zombie. Zombie culture has always been fun, but over the last decade become increasingly popular with movies such as Shaun of the Dead and World War Z, along with hit television series The Walking Dead. The result is zombie walks all across the country, and it is time for Murfreesboro!

Zombies will gather and walk from the corner of E. Main St. and Middle Tennessee Blvd. on the edge of the MTSU campus and walk along E. Main St. ending at Downtown Murfreesboro. The walk begins at 5:30pm and is free to all members of the community. All attendees are encouraged to pull out their best zombie costumes, but regardless of whichever type of zombie, come enjoy this first-time event.

After the zombies arrive at Downtown Murfreesboro, the fun continues with an after-party at 3 Brothers Craft Brewhouse for all ages. Beginning at 6:45pm, a Halloween-themed music show featuring local bands will provide entertainment for all zombies and humans alike while they party away. The show is open to the public, even those who could not make the Walk but still want to join in the fun.

The walk is presented by Youth Empowerment through Arts & Humanities, a Murfreesboro arts education non-profit organization. The walk celebrates the work of the organization in the community, providing commercial/popular music and theatre instruction to students. Programs include weekly music classes (Rock Block), theatre and music classes in partnership with Murfreesboro City Schools and summer music camps (Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp, Tennessee Teens Rock Camp and New York City Rock Camp).

Event sponsors include Murfreesboro Dental Excellence, Bell Jewelers, Pinnacle Financial Partners and Omega Delta Psi.
