GE...soon, just a memory!
Another part of Murfreesboro's history is fast becoming a memory. According to the Murfreesboro Building and Codes Department, the old GE plant at 2150 Northwest Broad Street is to be totally removed and the site will be cleared. SEE PHOTOS HERE.
GE's Murfreesboro facility was home to thousands of local workers for more than half century of operation here. In fact, the strong bonds between employees continues with occasional reunions. The local plant manufactured motors, clothes washers and dryers up until when it closed in November, 2006.
In 2007 GE conducted an auction to sell the remaining equipment at the site.

The city told WGNS News that they were working with Ed Craft of Environmental Abatement, Inc. in Nashville. He was not available for comment.
That firm's website notes that they do selective and structural demolition for the purpose of providing turnkey services to its clients.
Historians Want Site To Preserve Civil War History
It's not known what will replace the 50-plus year old structure, but reports indicate that many Civil War historians would like to see the Stones River Battlefield. The property backs up to the Artillery Monument and McFadden's Ford in the preserved battlefield. The site was central in both days of fighting during the Battle of Stones River.
The Battle of Stones River, also known as the Second Battle of Murfreesboro, was fought from December 31, 1862, to January 2, 1863.
