Children dressed in costumes are invited to trick or treat from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Halloween night Oct. 31 at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency workers with patrol cruisers, fire engines and an ambulance will allow children to receive their treats during the annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event.
Besides receiving candy, children will be able to pet the horses from the Mounted Patrol Unit, visit with the K-9s like Ely and view equipment used by the Felony Arrest Search Tactical Team.
Sheriff Robert Arnold invited children to attend the Halloween event.
“This is a safe environment for children to enjoy Halloween,” Sheriff Arnold said.
Sgt. Jimmy Cassidy of the Community Services Unit said children will have fun on a hayride around the area.
Another event is the 4th annual Punkin’ Chunkin’ where participants donate $5 to “chunk a pumpkin,” said Matt Harvey, founder of Angels for Protectors.
Funds will be used to offset medical costs for local law enforcement officers and telecommunicators who suffer from cancer.
Angels for Protectors will also sell shirts and stickers.
Besides the candy, parents may buy funnel cakes, hot chocolate and hot cider provided by Ernest Patterson, a member of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Association.
Other vendors include Free at Last bail bondsmen, Mahle Filters and All Pro Outfitters.
“This will be a breathtaking experience for children as they go car to car and receive candy,” Sgt. Cassidy said.
