The Bour Charity Classic has announced the 1st Annual Bour Charity Classic Golf Tournament will be May 20th at Indian Hills Golf Course in Murfreesboro, TN.

The Bour Charity Classic was founded by local business owner Jason B. Bour, director of New Beginnings Coaching Services, after helping Camp Horizon Pediatric Oncology Camp with their airsoft event to keep the camp open for children suffering from cancer.  The mission of the Bour Charity Classic is to help smaller non-profit charities raise money and awareness in the community.

“Everyone knows about the large “corporate” charities like Shriners Hospital for Children, and St Jude Children’s Hospital, both of which I fully support,” Bour said, “but no one thinks about the small charities that are struggling to stay afloat.”

This year’s event will benefit Camp Horizon Pediatric Oncology Camp.  Camp Horizon was founded in 1983 by the American Cancer Society, as well as other oncology camps around the US.  In Feb ACS announced it will no longer allocate funds to support these camps in order to put more money towards cancer research.  ACS has granted permission for supporters to keep the camp operational as long as they can raise the funds.  Beyond the Horizon Corporation was established to support the camp, and keep it open.   Camp Horizon serves over 100 campers from Tennessee and surrounding states each year at a cost of about $500 per camper at no cost to the families.   Camp Horizon is held each summer at Bethany Hills Campground in Kingston Springs, Tenn., just outside of Nashville.

Journeys in Community Living will be the second non-profit organization to benefit from the golf event.  Journeys is a private, non-profit agency established in 1975 to provide residential and day services for adults with intellectual disabilities who live in Rutherford and Cannon counties, and is located in Murfreesboro, TN.

“Our hope is to grow each year, support more than one charity each year, and eventually add a pro tour to the lineup.” according to Mr. Bour.

Bour Charity Classic is also planning to hold a bowling tournament in the fall, as well as other fundraising opportunities throughout the year to raise additional funds to support its mission.

If you are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, or participate as a player, contact Jason Bour at 615-429-1679.  Donations can also be made at any Mid-South Bank, checks payable to Bour Charity Classic.

Bour Charity Classic is also looking for people to serve on the golf committee.  The first committee meeting will be 5 PM on Jan 2nd at the Indian Hills Golf Course.  Current needs are people experienced with graphic design, web development, marketing, fundraising, or anyone who desires to help.  For more information you can call Mr. Bour at the above number.
