Metro Police are on the search for a murder suspect who may have headed to a nearby county by now. Midtown Hills Precinct detectives identified 18-year-old Jordan Goodlett of Atlanta as the suspected gunman in the March 1st shooting at the Cookout restaurant on West End Avenue that left one man dead and another critically wounded.

Goodlett is named in arrest warrants issued this afternoon charging criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide. Police say "Goodlett is believed to have fled the Nashville area." Efforts are now underway to determine his whereabouts and bring him into custody.

Goodlett is accused of killing Murray Gross, 25, of Memphis, and wounding Ryan Weaver, 19, of Cordova, Tennessee, following an altercation inside the restaurant at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 1st. Investigation by Detective Brittany Shoesmith shows that during the altercation, Weaver saw Goodlett move his hands toward his waist. Believing that Goodlett was reaching for a gun, Weaver fled into the restroom. Goodlett is alleged to have followed Weaver and shot him once while in the restroom. Weaver ran back into the main part of the restaurant, where Goodlett is alleged to have shot him once more.

Weaver's friend, Murray Gross, fled into the parking lot. He initially went to his Nissan Altima, which was running and parked in a handicapped spot. Goodlett is alleged to have fired at Gross, who was not able to get inside the vehicle. Three bullets struck the Altima. With Goodlett allegedly in pursuit, Gross ran through the alley behind the restaurant to 18th Avenue, where additional shots were fired. Gross was hit and died in the street.

Detectives are investigating whether the altercation inside the Cookout stemmed from an earlier dispute at a Nashville nightclub.

Goodlett was in Nashville as a college student. He withdrew earlier this month.

At the time of the shooting, Goodlett was free on $4,000 bond stemming from a January 21st felony marijuana arrest by TSU police. The court date on that case is set for May 13th.
