The Rutherford County launch of “Our Mission in Motion” will be this coming Tuesday night (8/2/11) from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Patterson Park. This will concide with National Night Out. “Our Mission in Motion” is a mobile mammography outreach program that is funded by Saint Thomas Health and Komen for the Cure. The program targets employed, underinsured and uninsured women throughout at 12-county area.

A mobile mammography unit, funded by Saint Thomas Health and equipped with Hologix digital mammography equipment, will travel to all counties designated within the Greater Nashville affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  The lack of mammography services in these areas and the uninsured or underinsured populations account for higher instances of non-compliance in screening mammography and higher death rates from breast cancer and late stage detection. A Komen grant provided funds to support the operational expenses of the program.

“Our Mission in Motion” will provide screening mammograms free of charge to women whose income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. The mobile mammography unit will visit community centers, libraries, and shopping centers to bring mammography services to underserved areas.

Area employers will also have the opportunity to ensure that female employees have access to mammography services. Employers can schedule a visit by the mobile mammography unit by contacting Our Mission in Motion at 615-284-6266 or visiting www.ourmissioninmotion.com for a list of scheduled screenings.
