Community Leader Tommy Sanford Dies At Age 75

Long remembered for his years of service as the Rutherford County Property Assessor and a leader with the Almaville Fire Department, Tommy Sanford passed away Monday (8/24/2015) at his home.

75-year old General Thomas "Tommy" Sanford was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County.

He became Property Assessor when Harold Baltimore died in office, and served for 22 years until deciding to retire. In addition, he was a Mason at Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, and a Shriner with Al Menah Shrine Temple. He was a member of Locks Memorial United Methodist Church.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, General Bryant and Flora Mai Sanford. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Joan Sanford; daughter, Laura Shri-Lahn (John) Sanford Glasner; grandchildren, John Thomas Glasner and Amy Glasner; and great-grandson, Oliver Glasner.

A Chapel service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Jennings and Ayers. Leland Carden will officiate with the Almaville Volunteer Fire Department serving as pallbearers. Burial will follow in McClaren Cemetery.
