MTSU’s Confucius Institute and the MTSU School of Music will host “Song of Silk,” a concert of songs, instruments, dance and Beijing opera, at 7:30 Sunday evening, October 2nd in the university's Wright Music Building.

A production of the Confucius Institute of Chinese Opera at Binghamton University of Binghamton, New York, the performers will include faculty from Binghamton University and the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, as well as the Melody of Dragon Chinese Ensemble and the Amber Dance Troupe.

The production’s title, “Song of Silk,” conveys essential images of Chinese culture. Silk, a major Chinese product, is also emblematic of music with stringed instruments. The Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and the West and Middle East, also is a metaphor for efforts to create a bridge between Chinese and Western cultures.
