Attention Boaters: Lack of Rain; Percy Priest Lake LOW!

The Army Corps of Engineers is warning boaters and swimmers to be cautious of rocks as you use Percy Priest Lake. Due to low rainfall, the lake is now about 3-feet below the summer pool level.

Springtime rainfall here in Rutherford County has brought on moderate drought conditions. In fact, the April showers are what the Corps usually depends on to fill the lake. However, instead of the normal 4-inches of rainfall in the Stones River Watershed, we only received about an inch.

Another concern is that Percy Priest Lake is Murfreesboro's secondary backup water supply. The Stones River is our primary source.

With the Memorial Day weekend being what boaters and swimmers consider the start of the summer season, there may have some challenges this year. We're just a week away from that three-day holiday, so be careful when you take to the water and make certain everyone is wearing life jackets.
