Simply make a phone call or knock on the door of an elderly neighbor during the cold weather. It takes a minute to check in and make sure they are doing alright.
Hydration and Nutritional consideration in cold weather is important. Make sure they have enough beverages and food. Warm beverages and food helps preserve body heat. Perhaps you can surprise your neighbor with a "cold weather comfort food basket".
Include non-perishable, easy to access food and beverages. This can include instant oatmeal, bottle or canned vitamin rich fruits and vegetables, low sodium soup, raisins, peanut butter, crackers, bottle waters, and 100% fruit juices. Top off this "comfort basket" with muffins.
The Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank helps fight hunger and bridge food insecurity.
