Two vehicles, one stopped to jump start the other, were slammed into by an alleged drunk driver. Reports indicate that one of the drivers from the two cars was standing in between them when a third car hit the back of the car with the dead battery, crushing the victim in the middle.
When officers pulled to the scene of the crash on Middle Tennessee Boulevard near Mercury Boulevard, they found three damaged vehicles. Police also observed one victim lying in the roadway with another woman rendering aid. Officers also noted that a man was spotted standing to the side of the crash on the sidewalk.
According to Sydney Friend, her car broke down on the inside lane of the roadway. Her mother, Stephanie Cash, stopped to jump start her daughters' car.
While the injuries were serious, Mrs. Cash did survive the accident.
The driver of the third car, who police spotted standing on the sidewalk as they pulled up, was identified as Alex David Feldkamp. A police report shows that he had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and had an odor of intoxicant. The report also stated, "Mr. Feldkamp corroborated Ms. Friends story, but added that he turned right onto Middle Tennessee Boulevard from East Main Street.
Shortly after Feldkamp allegedly refused to take a field sobriety test, he was arrested and taken to the local jail. Once at the jail, he reportedly refused to give a blood sample. However, a warrant for a blood sample was obtained and he had no choice but to comply.
The 30 year old man was charged with DUI, Violation of the Implied Consent Law and Vehicular Assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 28, 2018. Feldkamp was able to bond out of jail on February 4, 2018.
