Murfreesboro Parks and Rec Win Awards

Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department captured 13 awards during the annual Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association conference in Paris, Tenn. earlier this year.

These awards were presented to MPRD and accepted by those recognized for excellence in several categories.
In photo at bottom, from left on back row are:

  • Rachel Singer – The Award for Excellence; presented as best in Tennessee for achievement  in the field of Resource Management for her Teen Adventure Club.
  • Angela Jackson – Department Asst. Director, accepted the Volunteer Service Award for Andy Herzer who, along with Dr. Charles Apigian were named best in Tennessee for their volunteer contributions to the field of parks, recreation and leisure services.
  • Gary Arbit – The Robert H. Horsley Award; presented for planning, conducting and being responsible for the best recreation program in the state at McFadden Community Center.

  Tom Sage – The Donald H. Stanton Award; for the sixth year in a row, Sage and Trina Pullum received the award for programming services in Patterson Park Community Center recognized as the best among parks and recreation departments in Tennessee and for the citizens of Murfreesboro.

  • Thomas Laird – The Maynard Glenn Award; presented for excellence in programming he devised, planned and executed for the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department during the year, specifically Sports*Com’s Toddler Time.
  • Lanny Goodwin, Department Director, who accepted the President’s Cup for MPRD, which is recognized as the department in the more than 100,000 category as one that most adheres to the professional standards set by TRPA and contributions to the National Association for Recreation and Parks. The over-100,000 population category includes Nashville, Memphis,Chattanooga and Knoxville.
  • Steve Toombs – The Wayne Hansard Award; presented excellence in the maintenance of parks, facilities and grounds in a cost effective and efficient manner for the safety of the citizen user or user group.
